What Is Quartz ?
Engineered Quartz Surface is composed of 93% natural quartz crystals, combined with 7% functional additives (mainly polyester resins or acrylic binders and color pigments). On the Mohs hardness scale, natural quartz has a hardness rating of 7—second only to diamond, which ranks 10. In terms of key physical and mechanical properties, engineered quartz shares striking similarities with natural granite.
As a surface material, engineered quartz boasts inherent aesthetic appeal, exceptional durability, and superior hygiene, making it an ideal choice for kitchen countertops. Beyond kitchen applications, it is also widely utilized for bathroom vanity tops, wall claddings, and other interior finishing elements, thanks to its consistent performance and versatile appearance.
Classified as a high-performance engineered stone (distinct from natural granite), engineered quartz features uniform coloration and structural consistency, with significantly minimized porosity. Porosity is inversely proportional to a surface’s hygiene and cleanability—lower porosity means the surface is less prone to staining, more resistant to bacterial growth, and easier to maintain. Compared with natural stones (such as granite and marble), engineered quartz offers a far broader color palette, particularly in light-toned shades that are difficult to obtain in natural materials. Its fine, granular texture also ensures excellent workability: it can be precisely cut to leave a smooth finish, enabling flexible shaping and seamless color matching for custom designs.
With proper maintenance, engineered quartz can retain its optimal performance and aesthetic appearance for decades. Its maintenance requirements are minimal: common household stains (including wine, vinegar, tea, coffee, lemon juice, fruit and vegetable juices, olive oil, and other fats) can be easily removed with mild cleaning agents, restoring the surface to its original condition quickly. While engineered quartz exhibits good heat resistance, it is still recommended to use a trivet or heat pad for hot cookware, as extreme and prolonged heat exposure may cause surface damage or discoloration.
